Court Rulings Give Green Light To Common Core In La.

State Education Superintendent John White says the implementation of the Common Core educational standards in Louisiana's public schools will move forward, in light of recent court rulings.

On Tuesday, a Baton Rouge judge ruled against Gov. Bobby Jindal in a lawsuit filed by supporters of Common Core, lifting a contract suspension Jindal enacted to derail the multi-state standards.

"I think that yesterday's ruling goes a very long way towards giving teachers and students and families the confidence they need to know that we have a long-term plan in place," White said in a teleconference with reporters.

"Yesterday's ruling gives us the ability to continue that 4-year plan into its 5th year. My job is to implement the policies of the state. That is the policy of the state, and it will be implemented," White said.

White says the focus needs to be on the classroom, not the courtroom.
