Orleans DA May Win Without An Election

Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro may serve another term without an election.

His lone opponent, defense attorney "Lon" Burns has been disqualified by a Civil District Court Judge.

Tiffany Chase ruled that Burns failed to prove that he paid state taxes for a period of 4 years before he qualified for the election in August.  Burns admitted that he failed to file his state taxes for the years 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, but he termed it an "oversight."   He told the court he had instructed a tax preparer to file the documents before he qualified, but they apparently weren't submitted.

Burns plans to appeal the ruling.
