Kelly Clarkson And Blake Shelton Choke Up During Craig Morgan's Performance

Craig Morgan's "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" never fails to send chills up my spine and his latest live performance was no exception.

This week, Morgan gave a moving acoustic performance of his latest single inspired by the death of his 19-year-old son, Jerry, on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Morgan's strength was evident as he took the stage to sing the heart-wrenching words to "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost." His emotional connection to this song was felt so powerfully that it brought Kelly Clarkson to tears and visibly shook up Blake Shelton.

"The Father My Son and the Holy Ghost," officially released on Friday (August 30), was the first new music Morgan's shared since his son's tragic accident. The singer says that although reluctant at first, he was eventually encouraged by a friend to sing this song with the ultimate hope to "encourage other people to stick with their faith, and make it work."

Last month, Shelton started campaigning on social media to get Morgan's single to the No. 1 on the all-genre iTunes Songs chart. "I would gladly give up my spot on country radio to get this song on.." Shelton shared on Twitter. "Wow Craig Morgan. You blow me away brother. There's nothing easy or fun about writing a song like this but sometimes it's just something you gotta do."

Shelton kept the tweets coming to encourage people to download the song that he claims might be "the best song written in decades." Country singer, Luke Combs and celebrity, Ellen DeGeneres both joined in the push as well. On September 12, the song officially hit the top of the all-genre charts.

Morgan, who's performed the hit live a handful of times now, says despite the pain felt while singing, he does it to help others. "As difficult as this song was to write and as difficult as it is to sing, it gives me strength in my faith in God," Morgan shared on social media. "My hope is that it does the same for others."
