Have you ever watched a movie or a TV show and thought to yourself "WOW! That actor/actress has AMAZING skin?" Sure, some of the stars you see got lucky, hit the genetic lottery, and were born with skin that is flat out incredible. But let me let you in on a little secret about some of the others... a lot of them have had carbon laser facials. In fact, so many stars have had carbon laser facials that it's widely become known as the "Hollywood Facial."
So what is the carbon laser facial, or the "Hollywood Facial," and how does it work? It's really neat! It starts with the aesthetician applying a layer of liquid carbon to your face. As the carbon dries, it absorbs dirt, oil, and dead skin. It takes about 15 minutes or so to dry and then once dry, a specific laser is then run over the skin. The laser evaporates the carbon and takes with it all of the gunk that the carbon absorbed, leaving behind bright, glowing skin and tighter pores. In addition, the laser also helps to diminish wrinkles and fine lines, it evens and improves skin tone, it helps to repair sun damage, and it reduces acne and acne scars. The laser also helps to promote collagen growth, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which are all things that we start to lose in our 20s. When we lose collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, we start to show signs of aging and wrinkles, but the carbon laser facial aids in reversing all of it!

First Down Healthcare and Aesthetics in Metairie recently introduced the carbon laser facial to their aesthetics menu and of course I had to go try it out! For the sake of full disclosure, I am a paid endorser for First Down Healthcare Aesthetics but it is such an incredible place to go that I would be singing their praises anyway! I made a video of my experience so that I could show you the process. It's simple... in addition to the 15 minutes of waiting for the carbon to dry, the laser procedure itself took less than 10 minutes and it was painless! The wimp in me thought it was going to hurt. It didn't! It did get a little sensitive around the tip of my nose, but I wouldn't say it "hurt"... it was nothing that I couldn't handle. You also have a hose that blows cold air to keep you comfortable, but on a scale of one to ten with one being virtually no pain and ten being painful as heck, I'd give the entire procedure a two or a three. Piece of cake!
Due to the laser, you are required to wear eye protection, but the "light show" you see under the goggles is really cool. In fact, you get so wrapped up in watching the light show under your goggles that you almost forget a laser is running over your face! Once the procedure is done, the aesthetician applies a moisturizer and sends you on your way. You'll see at the end of the video that I was just slightly red but the redness didn't last long at all...maybe 15 minutes if I had to guess? But there is no downtime with this procedure, which makes it SO much better than other facials and laser procedures. Here is the video I made to show you my experience...
