Entergy expects power to be restored to 90% of New Orleans by Wednesday night (September 8).

Utility officials announced the updated estimate during a news briefing Wednesday morning, FOX 8 Live reports. Entergy Louisiana president and CEO Phillip May said around 600,000 of its 902,000 customers who lost power across the state have had it restored.

"We are making steady progress," said May.

Since the storms ended, crews across southeast Louisiana and surrounding areas have been assessing the damage left behind and getting to work restoring power to more than 1 million customers who had been in the dark, including all of New Orleans.

As of 11 a.m., only 13% of Entergy customers in New Orleans were still without power but officials anticipate that gap to narrow as they continue working. All hospitals in Orleans Parish have had power restored as have several grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants.

According to an Entergy press release on Wednesday, some of the hardest hit areas could take an additional three weeks for service to return, but they "won't stop until the last light is on."

On Wednesday, Entergy experienced some technical difficulties that could lead to some delays but are working to resolve any issues as quickly as possible.
