Chatting with Ryan Blaney

Ever since NASCAR returned from it's "Covid break" in May, the racing has been so exciting! NASCAR deserves a lot of credit for bobbing-and-weaving they way they did upon their return, including the way they retooled their schedule to be able to race. As of the race in Dover a few weeks ago, the NASCAR Cup Series is back on the original schedule through the rest of the season, and as of the Southern 500 in Darlington last weekend, the Cup Series is into the 10 race playoffs.

While a full field will still be on the track each week racing for a race win, the playoffs feature 16 drivers in the "Round of 16" that are eligible to win a Championship. After the third race of the playoffs, four drivers will be eliminated in the contention for the Cup and the "Round of 12" will begin with the fourth race in the playoffs. After the sixth race in the playoffs, four more drivers will be eliminated from contention and the "Round of Eight" will begin. After the ninth race in the playoff, the four remaining drivers advance to the "Championship 4" where they battle it out in one final race for the cup.

Ryan Blaney is one of the drivers in the Round of 16, and he was kind enough to call today to chat about racing tomorrow night at Richmond, racing next week at Bristol, how he may spend his off season, the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation, which is doing incredible work to bring awareness and raise funds for Alzheimer's and the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program, and of course we had to discuss the prospect of him growing another epic mullet or mustache. Here is our interview in it's entirety!

Be sure to catch the Federated Auto Parts 400 from Richmond tomorrow night at 7:30 EDT on NBC Sports!
