Tropical Storm Nestor Expected Soon In The Gulf

The National Hurricane Center is watching a system in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico it expects will become Tropical Storm Nestor sometime today.

While the possible tropical storm is taking aim for Florida, there is a tropical storm warning in place along the Louisiana coast from Grand Isle to the mouth of the Pearl River.

The NHC notes that the structure of the eventual system is not expected to be a "classical tropical cyclone" with much of the rain and wind possibly east of its center.

The biggest storm surge threat is for the Florida coast. "Dangerous storm surge inundation of up to 5 feet above ground level is possible along the Florida Gulf Coast from Indian Pass to Clearwater, where a Storm Surge Watch is in effect. Residents in these areas should follow advice given by local officials," read an NHC advisory.
