Area Off Coast Of Africa Under Watch For Tropical Development

The National Hurricane Center highlighted an area of the coast of Africa Saturday for the possibility of future development.

"A tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa later this weekend," said a NHC forecaster. "Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for some gradual development of this system while it moves westward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic during the early to middle part of next week."

Closer to home, tropical development is not expected in the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean Sea over the next five days.

Mid-season updates from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center and the forecasting team at Colorado State University continued to call for an above-average season, which is entering its peak months.

The season ends on November 30.
